Then who can be saved?
Cain’s countenance was fallen,
The rich, young ruler was sad,
Their best efforts could make neither glad.
Then who can be saved?
Cain brought his best,
The ruler’s life was admired,
But to cover their shame
Each needed new attire.
Then who can be saved?
Cain, God’s command he thought he’d obeyed
He brought an offering
For his sin to trade.
Then who can be saved?
The ruler, God’s law had kept
In the eyes of men, the best
Yet now, he wept.
Then who can be saved?
A lamb was brought by Abel
A perfect substitute in the place
Of him who was unable.
Then who can be saved?
The Lamb before the ruler stood;
A keeper of the law in the stead
Of those who are not good.
Then who can be saved?
Cain’s eyes were blind,
The ruler’s ears were deaf,
With man it was impossible
To save these men from death.
Then who can be saved?
Impossible for Cain,
And the rich, young ruler too
Their works but fig leaves
And filthy rags, nothing they could do.
Then who can be saved?
The one whom God chose
Before the foundation of the world
To be in perfect righteousness clothed.
Then who can be saved?
With man it is impossible
But God did provide
A covering, a lamb…innocent, he died.
Then who can be saved?
By the blood of sacrifice
Of a lamb who was to come
He stood before the ruler now
But only revealed to some.
Then who can be saved?
With man it is impossible
But with God may it never be
That He would fail to save His sons
By His blood upon the tree.
Then who can be saved?
Sinners! The sick!
The guilty and weak,
The Lamb has come to save the lost
And he finds all he came to seek.
